What is Murzik?

There are still many culinary secrets and African cuisine, which were not discovered by the general population. I have already described the central kitchen-Hatred of the people of Northern Uganda and Ugali, common in one form or another throughout Africa. Here is a real gem: Murzik!

What is Murzik?

The Lady is sitting next to the wood fire. Every once in a while, you get a piece of wood that barely is burning and rubs the blackened end deep container in hand-a pumpkin. Does this several times, until the pumpkin is completely black inside. When she was satisfied, she pours fresh milk in pumpkin and it seals with a seal tight leather, decorated with small beads.

Three days later, she opens the seal and spills Murzik-.

The Lady is very probably Kenya’s Kalenjin tribe, living on the Highlands of Western Kenya and in the Rift Valley.

The Nilotes and were livestock guardians for generations. They tend to be sparely built, tall and dark. Most long-distance runners in Kenya are from the Kalenjin tribe.

Traditional food Central is Murzik Kalenjin.

Murzik is a form of fermented milk, fermented in a pumpkin. A pumpkin is a climbing plant, which produces fruit of different lengths or roundness. The fruit is not edible, but when dried, making it a very practical container. The dried gourd is cut to remove the Interior wood. The resulting container is stable as good and beautiful wood.

Not all old wood can be used to prepare a pumpkin Murzik. There is special aromatic wood, is non-toxic for this purpose. The sweet-smelling wood ash lends fermented milk, a special aroma and taste.

Murzik is served with corn flour bread-Ugali, as we say in Kenya-as a special snack for visitors or as a healthy family meal.

It is obvious that female Kalenjin pumpkin collection is one of its most valuable effects of the family. There are Pumpkins of any size, shape and color, skin damage and operates lovingly embroidered with beads.

A Kalenjin bride receives his new collection of pumpkins as part of his wedding gift. And probably the greatest gift a woman can give another is to let her have her favorite pumpkin.

And the biggest compliments that a woman can ever hear about herself is that his skin is similar to a pumpkin Kalenjin.

Kalenjin land life is changing-as everywhere, but remains a special delicacy Murzik and precious.

You’ve probably heard it here first. Murzik.
